at the École nationale supérieure des Télécommunications in Paris

Fabian Suchanek with the Bureau des Élèves

This class has been taken over by Ioana and Cristian Ocnarescu.
The class still takes place, but this homepage is no longer maintained.
The class is on Mondays at 19:30, in the "Foyer des Élèves" at the École nationale supérieure des Télécommunications à Barrault in Paris.

See how to get there.

What did you do so far?

What is Ballroom dancing?

Ballroom dancing (danse de salon) is the kind of dance they do at weddings and balls; for example Walz, Chacha and Tango (check them out on Youtube!). These are dances that you dance as a couple (girl + guy). We will also have a session on Salsa, but this is not the main focus of the course.

Why should I learn ballroom dancing?

Because it's fun, it's part of culture and it's also a good excuse for not working.

What will the course cost me?

Nothing. The course is free.

When is the course?

The course is held once a week, on Mondays from 19:30 to 21:30 in the "Foyer des Élèves" at the École nationale supérieure des Télécommunications à Barrault. The room may change, so please sign up for our our mailinglist! The course will probably run for a few weeks.

In what language is the course being held?

English.

Who is giving the course?

That's me, Fabian Suchanek ( http://suchanek.name).

(Blurred for privacy reasons)

So are you a professional dancing teacher?

No. I am not a professional dancing teacher. You get what you're paying for ;-)

Do I need a dancing partner?

No. We will simply hope that a roughly equal number of guys and girls turns up. To support this process, please bring a person of the opposite gender! This is in your own interest ;-)

Is this course something official?

No. This course is a private project in co-operation with the Bureau des Élèves de l'École nationale supérieure des Télécommunications.

Note that the course is provided AS IS; there are no guarantees whatsoever. We cannot guarantee that the class will be professional, perfect or even held continuously at all! There are simply no guarantees! You take this course on your own risk! (There have been only very few fatal accidents in the past, though).

What is the level of the course?

The course is for total beginners with no experience in ballroom dancing. More advanced dancers are welcome as well, of course.

What dances will you teach?

I plan to cover all standard and latin ballroom dances, i.e., Walz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango, Viennese Walz, Rumba, Chacha, Jive and Samba (international style). In addition, we will cover the so-called nightclub dances Discofox/Hustle, Salsa, Merengue, Argentine Tango and Bachata. You will also learn the more professional aspects of dancing, such as posture, style and leading. (See here for a sample schedule.) If you survive this course, you should have good basic knowledge in all domains of ballroom dancing.

Do I have to sign up?

No. You can come without signing up. However, signing up will simplify my planning. It will also allow me to update you on the room, because the room may change. In any case, signing in does not commit you to anything. You are free to come to class or not and you can always sign out. So, sign in.

Alright, what do I do now?
